Fender Custom Shop ’59 Precision Bass
Alder Body • Quartersawn Maple Neck • AAA Rosewood Board
This Custom Shop ’59 Precision Bass is built around classic materials and construction, and we feel this one absolutely delivers the feel and response that defines great early P-Basses.
Body
The body is a two-piece alder and sorted for weight and grain, with traditional ’59 Precision Bass contours. Alder provides a balanced, punchy response with strong fundamentals and smooth mids—part of the recipe for authoritative P-Bass tone. The body is finished in lacquer and gives this one a resonant, broken-in feel. Finished in Closet Classic, this bass shows light to moderate lacquer checking, a softened sheen, subtle hardware patina, and gently aged plastics—authentic signs of time without heavy wear. There’s no exaggerated relic work here, just the look and feel of a well-kept vintage instrument that’s been stored carefully and is ready to be played.
Neck
The neck is quartersawn maple for added stability and sustain, finished in medium-tint nitrocellulose lacquer. It has a large vintage headstock with a substantial 0.580″ head thickness.
The fingerboard is AAA-grade rosewood, flat-laminated slab construction, with a 7.25″ radius and 20 vintage-style frets. The classic 1.75″ nut width and 2.50″ heel width pair with a ’60 P-Bass Oval “C” neck shape, giving it a full, confident feel without being unwieldy.
