We asked Fender to build us the ultimate ’66 Candy Apple Red P Bass with a Jazz Bass neck, and they absolutely got it Dunn for us.
This special-order Custom Shop creation pairs the authoritative thump of a Precision with the sleek, fast feel of a vintage-style Jazz Bass neck. It’s the combination players have chased for decades: classic P-body power with the slimmer, more agile Jazz profile—comfortable, quick, and inspiring. But it’s not too skinny: a “60 J bass “U” profile and has a nicely rounded profile.
The neck is a quarter-sawn maple neck blank, round-lam AAA rosewood fingerboard, block inlays, 9.5″ radius, 6105 frets, and a tinted NOS lacquer finish. It feels broken-in right out of the case, but with all the rock-solid stability and refinement you want from a Custom Shop instrument.
The alder body in Candy Apple Red NOS ties it all together, loaded with a Custom Shop Handwound 65–70 P-Bass pickup for warm fundamental, tight low end, and classic mid presence.
Whether you’re digging into soul, R&B, Memphis grooves, or laying it down in your Blues Brothers cover band, this bass is a plug it in and go to work-kind of bass.
